Who is The Berkshire Bakesmith?

This is me. Kerry Johnson. Also known as The Berkshire Bakesmith.

I began my cake making journey in November 2012, creating cakes for local coffee shops to pay the bills after suddenly finding myself as a single mum. Over time, I honed my craft and quickly became a sought-after cake artist, specialising in sugar models and novelty cakes.

Since those early days, my journey has taken me further than I could ever have imagined. I’ve:

• Created thousands of beautiful cakes

• Taught lots of adults and children cake decorating techniques

• Been a regular voice on BBC Radio Berkshire

• Become one of Theo Paphitis’ Small Business Sunday award winners

• Reached the finals of the nationwide Baking Industry Awards in both 2022 and 2023

• Designed a cake for James Acaster, presented live on air on C4’s Sunday Brunch

• Been featured in She Can 365, a published book celebrating 365 inspirational women in business across the UK

After 13 amazing years of being fully booked for bespoke cake orders every single week, I decided to hang up my professional apron and follow another calling: supporting vulnerable young people through my work in education.

But my passion for baking and creativity will always be a part of me. And so, the final chapter of my cake artistry career is all about teaching and sharing everything I’ve learned and helping you bring your own ideas to life.

I am now offering private one to one and small group private tuition and classes in cake decorating and sugar modelling. I am also offering mentoring sessions to cake business owners and those thinking about starting on their own professional cake journey.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or a budding professional, together we can create something truly beautiful.
